INTRODUCTION
TO "BLUE MOON"
THE
VENUE BLUE
MOON was built from scratch after spending a full year intensively searching
for a suitable farm. We completed the venue at the end of 2000 and have
thus been operational for one year. BLUE
MOON is a dynamic multi-purpose Functions Venue, nestled between impressive
Lowveld granite outcrops - 10km south of Nelspruit. Structurally the building is
designed with a wider and higher front than back. This provides excellent
acoustics both inside the building and in the amphitheatre and allows maximum
visual access and focus to the stage. The venue is suitable for day as well as
night functions with a strong indoor-outdoor relationship. Much attention was
given to create a space,
which is comfortable for small groups yet spacious
enough for large groups. BLUE MOON is
an all-weather, round the year venue - breezy and cool during the hot summer
months, whilst on a cool winter night the six enormous sliding doors are closed. BRIEF
HISTORY BLUE
MOON has three partners, Anthony, Renate and Pete, all of whom live on the
property. We are owner/operators and the venue is for us both a way of earning a
living as well as a love affair. Before BLUE MOON, we owned a similar venue near Wilderness. Prior to that, Anthony owned
the business Breede River Adventures that he sold to the Felix Unite Group.
Anthony started running music concerts at one of his river camps "Up The
Creek" in 1990. These concerts are now known as the "Savanna Up The
Creek Festival". CAPACITY As a guideline, we would describe our capacity as:
1500
-
indoor and outdoor
800
-
indoor standing with closed doors (in case of rain)
230
-
indoors - banquet style seating THE
YEAR PAST AND THE YEAR AHEAD
BLUE
MOON has run 17 concerts in 2001. These concerts normally take the
form of a headline act, often preceded by an opening band. In 2001
concerts by Springbok Nude Girls, Saron Gas and Watershed were all attended by
numbers exceeding 1000. In 2002 we intend to host two concerts per month,
one aimed at the mainstream youth and the other spread across different music
genres. After a disappointing start with regard to attendances in 2001, we
now conduct regular surveys to establish suitability and demand before
commissioning any acts. ADVERTISING Our market is exclusively local at this stage and we
advertise each concert by means of:
-
a
banner - posters,
-
flyers at selected places
-
newspaper editorials
-
mention on the 5fm Radio Gig Guide
-
advertising the event on our power zone website
-
sending out E-mail based newsletters to our
customers. SPONSORSHIP Currently BLUE
MOON has no sponsorship, but we are hoping to secure one main sponsor in the
near future. LICENSING BLUE
MOON is fully re-zoned without any restrictive conditions. We also have a
full liquor licence. VENUE
FACILITIES
Our venue has adequate flush toilet, parking and bar
facilities for 1500 guests. Single and three phase power is available on
the stage. In addition a fully equipped kitchen is available. NELSPRUIT Nelspruit
is a growth centre surrounded by the towns Barberton, Malelane, Sabie, Graskop,
White River, Hazyview and Lydenburg and in addition forms the supply hub to a large
surrounding area including the Kruger National Park and its adjoining private
reserves, Swaziland, Mozambique and the Blyde River Canyon. Nelspruit thus
acts as a tourist's springboard and a major commercial supply centre. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
